First Snow

First snow
lines the walks,
the trees, the leaves
those with their color
those without.
I ventured out
before Sunday Morning’s
nostalgic look at the seasons.
The sheets as smooth
as skin. Droplets
painting the iced
air. White layers
of white. Sky on clouds
on sky. White and Red.
The berries that define
Christmas seasons
for the red is stunning
against the snow.
First snow. The curtains
part. The sun will sleep early
tonight. But we won’t see it
behind drapes of pure,
first snow.
