Memory

When writing poetry, or any creative piece memory is important. Sometimes, I feel that my memories are just below the surface, and I can’t really tap into the poem that wants to emerge. At that point, the poem has a life of its own.

My voice is becoming largely narrative. It was suggested that I infuse lyric elements into the narrative. Here is something that emerged from the conversation I had with my creative mentor.

My memory is like dust

that covers the eye.

A sepia filter.

In waves, it

rushes to shore,

retreats like an unseen

creature whose

eyes remember mine.

Here is a poetry prompt for you. Close your eyes and try to access a memory. Then write whatever comes out. Post it here!
